SugarFree Protocol – Christy

Christy will join us on Monday, January 13 – but please welcome her now.

Christy’s Introduction:

Welcome to my journey of health and healing.  I am forty-two, 5′ 5″, and weigh 195 pounds. Over the past few years I’ve struggled with my weight and health. After the birth of my daughter almost five years ago, I tried to lose weight by using methods that had worked before – weight training and eating healthy – but without the success I had in the past. I sought out a trainer who had a great reputation for weight loss and muscle-building in her clients. After three months of limited success, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I felt worse after my workouts and had more migraines and tension headaches than were normal for me, so I stopped everything. No more dieting or working out. I suspected I had adrenal issues too, but never did the labs to find out.

Fast forward to last summer. I took HCG and went on a 500 calories a day diet. Of course starvation made me lose twenty pounds. I did a strict Paleo diet for the next several months, but never lost another pound. Eventually I added back sugar and processed foods and the weight came back with a vengeance. That’s when I contacted SugarFree for help!

What I learned during our consult and review of my metabolic test results is that my triglycerides and other labs show me to be insulin resistant, hyperinsulinemic and, despite taking Amour, very hypothyroid though without Hashi’s. Although my thyroid gland is fine, my thyroid hormones are not. I have low T4, high TSH, low B12, low DHEA, and am on the wrong thyroid medication. I feel like my body has become one big, messy puzzle and I’m baffled that my doctors have never been able to put all the pieces together. SugarFree will be the one to help me do that. The first goal is to get my insulin under control with Protocol. Which is exciting because it will ultimately mean I can live a long, healthy life and enjoy being a happy, active, healthy mom and wife.

I woke up ready to start Protocol! My meal was very good, but I found it difficult to finish the last few bites. I’m feeling well on the first day and not hungry even four hours after eating. Overall, a good day.

Protocol Round 1, Week 1, Day 2 – 1/14

Weight: 191.5 = down 3.5 pounds

Meal:
– 10 oz pork chop
– 8 oz broccoli
– .75 T butter
– .75 T duck fat
– 1 oz sweet potato
– 6 oz collard greens

Fitday Stats:
Calories: 761

Today I was so ready for my meal! I was stuffed by the time I got down to the last few bites and even after two hours, I’m still very full. I was happy to see the scale down this morning even though it was water weight. I was surprised at my PPs. I didn’t sleep great – I went to bed feeling hungry and couldn’t fall asleep easily.

[Note: Christy, welcome to Protocol! Most Participants are hungry for the few days it takes them to get into lipolysis, but once they do the hunger disappears. That’s because in addition to the calories they eat with a fork, they are being fed thousands more calories of (previously) stored fat! It should happen for you in the next day or so. In the meantime, you’re doing fine. :)]

Protocol Round 1, Week 1, Day 3 – 1/15

Weight: 191 = down .5 pound

Meal:
– 8 oz chicken liver
– 2 large eggs
– 5 oz green beans

– 1 oz brown rice

Well, I didn’t enjoy the liver. I need to learn how to cook it better and I’m sure over time I will acquire and even possibly crave it. At least that’s my hope!

[Note: If you read the other Participant blogs you’ll see that everyone starts where you are, and ends up loving it. The secret is to barely cook it and eat it rare. Overcooked liver tastes, well, livery. :)]

Today I haven’t been hungry or thinking about food that much as the first two days. I don’t feel the wild body temperature swings today either. Overall, I’m feeling good and enjoying learning about myself and how my body responds to the food I’m eating.

[Note: Not surprising as you’re now in lipolysis – hooray! :D]

I felt more hungry today than yesterday and looked forward to my meal. It was good, but I missed having more butter for my veggies. I was still a little hungry after I finished. Today felt different from the first few days where I didn’t think I could finish – today I wanted more! It’s a few hours later and I’m still a bit hungry. I’m happy with my numbers today and the scale moving in the right direction 🙂

Protocol Round 1, Week 1, Day 5 – 1/17

Weight: 188 = down 2.5 pounds

Today I wasn’t very hungry and was extremely stuffed at the end of this meal. I don’t ever want to pair that much leafy greens together ever again! I roasted all the veggies and loved the mushrooms and the sweet potato – delish 🙂 And the chicken was fabulous as well. It’s almost three hours later and I’m still very satisfied.

[Note: Liver aside, you’re now in lipolysis and eating thousands of calories a day – without a fork. It’s not unusual for Participants to lose their appetite while burning/consuming lots of their own fat.]

Today is my birthday and I’ve had a rough day so far. I wasn’t in the mood to eat and just haven’t enjoyed my day. I had a nice day with my family, but I think mentally it was tough because I didn’t partake in any birthday activities that my family wanted to do with me. My husband wanted to take me out for dinner, my daughter wanted to have ice cream for my birthday, my mom wanted to come to town and take me to dinner, and I had to turn them all down. There have been many moments recently where my daughter has wanted to eat breakfast together or share a piece of popcorn and I have to decline and it just got to me mentally. I know I’m making progress and I can’t wait to be able to have those moments again.

[Note: You know what? When the time comes that you *could* have those things again – you won’t want them. You will have learned by then – and you will have taught your family – that there are better, and healthier ways to celebrate ‘occasions’ than around food. Like… massages. Jewelry. A new, tiny, pretty dress to wear. A spa day. A family day of games and watching a great movie together. Though a special dinner with your DH while wearing that pretty little dress will definitely be on the cards. 🙂 Meanwhile, by all means eat breakfast with your daughter. Just make Brunch the main meal for the entire family every weekend, and enjoy all the great food you’ll eat on Maintenance. Happy Belated Birthday!]

I was a little hungry this morning, but was excited to eat my meal. I cooked my beef in the crock pot because last week it was tough. It was tender today, although a little dry. I feel better today, and in a better mood. I took the day off to have some time for myself to enjoy since I typically take days off to care for my daughter or when I’m ill.  I am excited for a 90 minute massage later today.  I’m happy to see my weight and measurements going down.

[Note: “Going” down? With nearly nine inches of fat lost in a single week, you mean ZOOMING down. 😀 I think you set some kind of record – LOL. Well done!

As for the dryness of your beef today, that’s due to the crock pot, which almost always over-cooks meat. If you would like a cut-it-with-fork, melt-in-your-mouth cheap cut of beef – use a pressure cooker instead. It would have cooked your beef in about 45 minutes, pushed into the meat all the liquid, spices and flavors you added to the pot, and made it the opposite of dry. One tip when using a pressure cooker: Never use the ‘quick release’ for meat. Let the pressure come down naturally.]

Protocol Round 1, Week 2, Day 2 – 1/21

I ate all of my liver today! That is a milestone to celebrate :) I’ve been struggling with it and it finally went down much better today. It’s two hours after my meal and I’m stuffed. I’m happy to see that my PP numbers didn’t spike from having two oz of sweet potatoes.

I’m tired from staying up too late last night and I have a headache from a trigger point that got irritated from the massage yesterday. I plan to go to bed earlier and hopefully I’ll have energy like other participants experience. I did walk today for fifteen minutes – just a nice leisure walk outdoors. I would like to do this daily when the weather permits to help get me away from my desk and alleviate some tension I feel from sitting so much.

Another victory I want to share is that I’m down almost ten pounds since I began Protocol and wore a pair of pants today that have been too tight. That feels good!

[Note: As it should. 🙂 But please remember that the smaller pants fit today not because you lost ‘pounds’ but because you lost inches of fat. Most of those ten pounds were water, which weighs a lot. The fat that you lost probably weighed no more than a few pounds, but they sure were the right pounds. :D]

Our family took a trip to Sea World and I took my meal with me. It was a lot easier to eat on the road than I thought it would be. I cut up my pork chop ahead of time and ate cold roasted veggies. It was really good! I had to take my one-hour PP right after I got into the park. It was hectic getting in and I was a little frazzled stopping to take it – could that be why it was higher?

[Note: Probably not. It’s such an outlier number I;m guessing you weren’t able to wash your hands thoroughly before taking it. Wouldn’t worry about it. :)]

My meal was great and I was stuffed afterward. I wasn’t able to take my one-hour PP as I was on the phone with SugarFree discussing Maintenance. I have to admit that I’m a bit worried about this part because I’m not a natural in the kitchen – I am a meal assembler. At this point, I’m having great difficulty with coming up with meal ideas and recipes, but I know that will pass. I have a cookbook and a pressure cooker on order and can’t wait to try them both out. I’m finding that I have some hunger at night, just a little, enough to annoy me! And I’ve noticed that my PP’s are higher at times I feel stressed, overwhelmed, and/or frazzled.

[Note: You’re starting to closely observe your own body – this is great for living well and staying slim in the future. 🙂 As to the hunger toward the end of Protocol, that’s very normal. It’s your brain starting to worry about losing so much fat quickly, and prodding you with extra Ghrelin to get you to eat more. Which … you’re about to do, and why the Maintenance phase is the most important part of Protocol! :D]

I was hungry this morning, but drank coffee and water to hold me over until meal time. My meal was delicious and I am extremely full a couple of hours later. I think my stomach has to get used to eating so much fat. I am also feeling very warm/flushed, which is how I felt when I started Protocol.

[Note: And, to sum up your first two weeks on Protocol, you’ve lost twelve pounds and 10.25 inches of fat! Are you as happy for yourself as I am for you? :D]

I was more hungry this morning than I thought I would be after so many calories yesterday. But my meal was heavenly 🙂 I’m getting better at cooking!

SugarFree asked yesterday if I was happy about my progress. I am! Today I ate at work and when I was heating up my food (3 containers) I heard someone say “she’s hungry.” I laughed to myself and enjoyed all the deliciousness I had in all those containers!

[Note: And even better – you’re going to get to eat this way the rest of your life. No more counting calories. No more starving yourself or ‘struggling’ with weight and inches. Just delicious food you’ve learned to make yourself, eaten daily, while staying slim and healthy. What’s not to like? :D]

This week the little bit of hunger I feel at times has shifted from night to morning. I’m also starting to feel more energy, finally! I’m still tired in the morning even though I get seven to eight hours of sleep, and I haven’t watched TV in my bedroom since Saturday night. I’m hoping the mornings will become easier for me soon. As usual, I’m stuffed after my meal.

[Note: First, when your 2-hr PP goes up by more than two points above your 1-hr, you should continue taking your PP’s every hour until such time as they go down again. No need to wait to report, or even to post those numbers here – but it’s important to understand how the food you ate is affecting you. Second, as the food you’re now eating starts to get through to your cells to nourish them (instead of being stored as fat), your energy levels will increase, you’ll sleep better, and awake more refreshed.]

I went to lunch with my daughter and ate at three o’clock. I ordered a small steak (no seasoning), baked potato with sour cream and butter only, and steamed broccoli (no seasoning). I asked for extra butter and sour cream two more times. As you can see, my postprandial numbers were not good. Was it the white potato which I’ve not had until now? Maybe I ate too much of it? Or maybe the steak was marinated in something with sugar prior to cooking although it had no seasoning.

[Note: Those are absolutely sugar spike numbers, perhaps made a bit worse by the potato if you think you ate more than two ounces of it. Since they usually serve ten ounce potatoes in restaurants, you would have been able to eat no more than one-third of one-half the potato. Did you?

But really, the PP numbers reflect sugar. You may have said ‘no spices’ on the steak — but unless you *also* said ‘no salt or pepper’ there was sugar in that salt. And in fact, most restaurant steak these days comes already seasoned with a special ‘blend’ that always contains sugar. It’s sad, but you actually need to ask, and if so, ask them to rinse the steak before cooking it. They will always oblige. And of course, there may have been sugar in the sour cream, too – so I ask about that before eating it. If so, I only have butter. After I first determine it’s real butter, and not the new low-fat ‘blend’ restaurants have begun to use. If my readers are disgusted while reading this, and realizing that you’re slowly being poisoned in stores and restaurants, most times without your knowledge or consent, I don’t blame you. It’s a horrendous situation, and will only be changed if enough of us complain about it. These days, I go to restaurants with the attitude that there’s sugar in everything on the menu unless confirmed otherwise. :(]

[Note: No need to ‘figure’ – here’s how to do it in two easy steps, since well or ill, no one should have to cook every day. Step 1: Cook a LOT extra on weekends. Step 2: Package well and refrigerate or freeze. Need a meal on Wednesday with no time to cook? Just open a fridge or freezer door, toss package in microwave, heat, eat. Bonus: No pans to wash. 😀 Glad you’re feeling better!]

Still have a cold and a lovely cold sore to go along with it. I also have a migraine .:( On the positive side, Maintenance is going well.

[Note: I’m sorry to hear about the cold and sore throat – the reason for your high PP’s – but Maintenance is going very well indeed. While eating a boatload of fat and calories in the last two weeks (which according to the Calories In, Calories Out theory, means you should have gained several pounds by now) — you’ve actually lost 5.5 pounds and a LOT of fat! So much for the theory. :D]

I am still on the Protocol Illness Menu, though I’m feeling better Why did my blood sugars spike today?

[Note: What happens when we have an infection, is that as all your forces are marshaled to fight it, cortisol is raised to help. Cortisol depresses insulin, which raises glucose. Simple. Why it’s so high today though, is because you went to work instead of staying home until you’re fully recovered. This is making your body work much harder, and raising even more cortisol – not a good thing in general, but worse when it means you’ve set your full recovery back. When you feel sick, it’s your body’s way of telling you: stop moving and lay down. 🙂 The good news is that you now have a long weekend to stay in bed. I hope you’ll feel great by the time you go back to work on Tuesday, and if so, your PP’s will quickly return to normal.]

Thank you for the anniversary wishes! I like the way you think in regards to the make up session. :) I woke up feeling much better, and ate half of my Maintenance meal. Thank you so much, SugarFree, for suggesting that I get an Instant Pot. I cooked steak in it and I will never cook it another way again! It was so tender and delicious.

[Note: Christy, I’m so glad you’re feeling better! And glad that you love the Instant Pot. To any readers wondering about this – I will have an entire page about Instant Pot up in the next week or two (they’ve currently sold out and are waiting for a new shipment from overseas) – and waiting will be worth your while since I will be able to offer all SugarFree readers a $45 off discount code that comes with free shipping. :)]

I’m very full today and it’s a good feeling after being sick and not eating as much. I’m finding that I’m hungry in the mornings and my stomach sure lets me know it by growling loudly!

My body is playing with half a pound lately but I don’t care because I’m able to wear a smaller size in some of my pants this week! I started at a size sixteen and am able to wear some size twelves now. :) I love shopping in my own closet to see what fits again!

The Chicken Normandy was so yummy!! I’m very happy that I tried it before going back to Protocol Phase 1 next week.

[Note: Christy, today is a special one for you. You’ve not only lost 21 pounds and lots of fat inches since you began Protocol just six weeks ago, you’ve done it the healthy way, without starvation or drugs. By eating a ton of good food, in fact. And you’ve lost a full 10% of your total body weight. A goal most doctors would be thrilled to have their patients achieve — in about a year. 😀 Go Google how amazing it is to lose 10% of your body weight, and keep it off, and then I hope you’ll celebrate this weekend. You certainly deserve it. Well done!]

I made some poor choices when dining out today. It was past my time to eat and I was extremely hungry. I made the choice to indulge in some flat bread with steak and blue cheese. Later, I had some crazy emotions regarding my choices, but in the end I’m not disappointed in myself and I’m not beating myself up over it. I made the choice and knew what the consequences would be. I don’t want to minimize what I did because it does have great impact, but I also want to pat myself on the back for doing well up until yesterday. And I know I’ll be right back on track tomorrow. This is coming from someone who would binge and let that one binge turn into a few days of bingeing. No more of that behavior — tomorrow is a new day. 🙂

[Note: Everyone fall off the wagon at some point in learning new skills. If you learn something from the fall, it’s likely to only happen once. :D]

My blood glucose levels show I’m still paying for my poor food choices on Saturday. I’ve thought a lot about the decisions I made and knew they wouldn’t be good for me, but I see it on my meter every time I take my readings. The higher numbers are staring me in the face as a reminder of what I did. I don’t want to do that again and have to face these kinds of numbers…it sure makes a difference when you can see it on the meter!

On a happier note, there are my measurements 🙂

[Note: And they are GREAT. Take a look at the differences between where you were when you started Maintenance and where you are now. I hope a month of eating a ton of calories and fat – yet still losing a lot of fat and weight – will forever convince you that Calories In, Calories Out is sheer fiction. And you’ve experienced that lie yourself. :D]

I am so happy with the scale today! Even though I know the scale shows no useful information, it makes me feel good to finally be under 170 pounds. I haven’t seen today’s number – twenty-six pounds less than when I started Protocol exactly two months ago — in almost ten years. I’ve fought to lose those pounds for many years, and now I know I will never have to fight them again. :) Bonus: My fingernails are back to being beautiful and strong. If I lose enough to get my wedding band back on, I will be ecstatic (and so will my husband!).

[Note: Christy, that day will come, and it won’t be long. There’s a world of difference between 195 and 169, and you’ve done incredibly well for just eight short weeks. The best is yet to come. :)]

I am very happy with the inches (FAT!) I’ve lost. The scale is such a liar! It would tell you that I’ve gained weight this past week when in fact, I’ve done just the opposite. :)

[Note: The scale is a liar – but not because of your ‘weight’. There it told the truth: you did gain weight last week. The lie was in telling you that you got ‘bigger’ when in fact you got ‘smaller’ because although you gained scale weight (water), you lost FAT. Which is what people actually mean when they say “I want to lose weight,” right? :)]

My measurements decreased only slightly this past week, but I sure am feeling a difference in how my clothes fit. I bought some new pants a while back knowing that I would be able to wear them eventually. But now that they fit in the waist, they are too big in the legs. Tough problem to have, huh?!? LOL

It has been a great day. Not only have I lost 31 pounds, but I tried on some size tens last night and I actually got them on. Woo-hoo! Getting them on and being comfortable are two different things, but it’s just exciting to know that I’m on my way. 🙂 I also went to lunch with friends and it was a success. I got a little flack about being different with my meal combination, but they don’t know what I know. :)  Thank you, SugarFree, for your guidance and support!

[Note: Christy – what a glorious day for you! Losing thirty-one pounds is wonderful, but even more wonderful is what it represents: Sixteen percent of your total body weight gone! You can Google how few people achieve that. Fewer still keep it off, as you will. And congratulations on how you did it, and will continue: eating lots of great food and fat. So unlike your trial of HCG, where you starved yourself on 500 calories a day, and still lost less weight (and fat) than you have on Protocol. Amazingly well done! :D]

I have a sinus infection. I don’t know why I’m so susceptible to illness when I’m taking such good care of myself! I’ve been sick more in the last three months than I was all of last year. :(

[Note: Christy, I’m sorry to hear you’re ill again, and I understand how frustrating this must be for you. It was a horrible winter all around the country, with people closed in for months at a time. And you have kids, who bring everything home with them! Two things will help in future. First, you will build up a better immune system over time on Protocol. It may seem like a long time to you, but you’ve only been eating this well for four months to the day – after a lifetime of, well, not so much. 🙂 Second, when you do fall ill, the antibiotics will make you *feel* better in a few days – but you won’t actually *be* better.  That will take some days longer. Give yourself those days to rest. I know that’s hard to do these days, especially with kids, but if you don’t allow yourself time to heal completely, your immune system will stay compromised. When you feel like going back to work – sit down until the feeling passes. :)]

To answer SugarFree’s question from yesterday, yes it does feel wonderful to eat a lot of fat and calories on Maintenance, feel satisfied without any cravings, and still continue to lose weight and fat! I love that I don’t crave sugar like I used to, and that even though I partook in the birthday festivities by eating a cupcake, I was able to jump right back in where I left off and I feel great!

I’m not sure why my fasting blood glucose level was so high today as I didn’t have anything outside of my menu yesterday. My 1-hr PP though – well, I did have a slice of cake today. We celebrated my daughter’s upcoming birthday (again!) with the family. I didn’t plan on having the cake as I did at her party recently, but I allowed myself to be triggered by the memory of how yummy it was. I felt like the sugar addict I used to be and wasn’t happy feeling like that.

[Note: Was it really ‘yummy’? In the years since I gave up sugar I’ve tasted ‘cake’ – literally a forkful – then spit it out into my napkin. It always *looks* good, but invariably tastes like nothing but a mouthful of sugar. Yech.]

Protocol Round 3, Week 1, Day 7 – 4/20

Blood Glucose:
Fasting: 111

We had a family gathering for Easter and the ham and mashed sweet potatoes were both made with brown sugar and the veggies were made with some kind of cheese sauce. We were at a resort – not in my parent’s home so the options were limited. I’m glad I brought my own food for tomorrow.

[Note: Reality is sometimes difficult to face. But if you want to remain healthy on Lifetime Maintenance, now is a good time to face it. Food you don’t make yourself will NEVER be healthy. It will ALWAYS be stuffed with sugar and chemicals. And you must choose not to eat it, because the choice is always YOURS. To start, you can call the hotel, resort or restaurant in *advance*, ask to speak to the manager, and explain that, as a diabetic, you cannot eat sugar-filled foods. They will be oh, so happy to accommodate you, and prepare delicious, healthy foods that you can eat. Every single time. Help them out with a prepared  list of foods you’d enjoy eating, such as olive-oil roasted veggies, a non-mashed, whole roasted sweet potato, etc. And if you forget the advance call, all you have to do is say the same words to your server and voila – different food will be brought out for you. Like rubbing the magic lantern – and the genie with good food appears. 😀

But as always – the choice is yours. No one will ever tie you down and force you to eat foods that are – as you can see by your PP’s – literally making you sick. That includes family celebratory cupcakes and cakes. Just say the words to your family out loud once: I am a diabetic and can never eat sugar – and no one will ever offer you a cupcake again. You don’t have to preach or explain – just say that one short sentence. Or not. Your choice.]

I ate my own food today. I kept thinking how I wish I had a “reset” button or perhaps I could go running and negate the damage I’ve done and then I realized that I have a “reset” button and it is called getting back on Protocol! Eating the cake and then a meal that was not free of sugar played with my emotions this time – more than when I’ve slipped in the past. It was very clear to me just how much sugar is included in family gatherings, celebrations, etc. Unless you are cooking everything yourself, it is difficult to avoid.

I found a new way to cook the chicken liver and I liked it! I was so tired last night and went to bed early. Unfortunately I still don’t feel rested after eight hours of sleep and I have a nasty headache this afternoon.

To answer SugarFree’s question yesterday about the cake being yummy – yes, it was. We hired someone to make the cupcakes and the cake. I’m not a fan of icing, but the cake portion was very good and not overly sweet in taste. I feel wrong in admitting that, but it’s the truth and something I have to overcome if I’m going to succeed in Lifetime Maintenance. I look at it as being an addict and not even being able to have a taste because it makes me want more :(

I was not clear in how/where we ate our meal and the assumption was made that I was in a resort restaurant. We weren’t. We were in a time share and my mom cooked the meal. I was under the impression that she’d make whole sweet potatoes and steamed veggies – not packaged foods. I should have gotten more details about the meal she was planning prior to traveling so I could have known that I would need my own food that day.

[Note: I didn’t mean to imply that making your needs known in advance was for hotels or resorts only – but for friends and family, too. As you’ve now learned, being ‘under the impression’ about something isn’t the same as declaring, a week beforehand that you can’t eat any foods with sugar – and going over the exact recipe list with whoever is cooking it. And if you forget to do that, you still have the choice of eating what’s on the table, or saying ‘gosh, sorry I didn’t say anything earlier but I can’t eat this’ – and going to the fridge for the butter and eggs to make an omelet. In other words, you always, always, always have the choice of what to eat in ANY circumstance.]

I appreciate the notes that SugarFree left for me. I understand that the food I ate can make me sick and I’m happy that I know how to turn that around and not continue going down a path of sickness. Prior to Protocol, many days like that were normal but that is a thing of the past. I’m glad that I know how to turn it around the very next day if need be.

[Note: That’s probably the best lesson of all. :D]

Maintenance Round 3, Week 3, Day 1 – 5/12

I went out to eat with friends today and it is so nice to have the knowledge that lets me  make good choices for my body! I took butter with me and loaded up my veggies with it. :)

Maintenance Round 3, Week 3, Day 3 – 5/14

My blood sugars are up today. This morning it occurred to me that I have been drinking a tea at night that could be causing the higher fasting glucose number. I’m going to stop drinking it and see if my fasting number starts to come down.

[The tea might affect your fasting level, but not your 1-hr PP – unless you had the tea with your meal as well. That rise was caused by the strawberries. :(]

I was able to comfortably slip on a pair of size ten pants today. I had to look at the label to make sure of the size and then proceeded to try on others and they all fit! I have been in between size ten and twelve for several weeks now.

[Note: Fantastic!]

Maintenance Round 3, Week 3, Day 4 – 5/15

Weight: 162.5 = up .5 pound

Ketostix: small

Blood Glucose:

Fasting: 98
1-hour PP (after meal): 107
2-hour PP (after meal): 107

I didn’t drink the tea last night and my fasting glucose came down, but today’s PP’s were high. I’m not sure what’s causing that.

[Note: Today it was forgetting that your chopped liver had all your sweet/starch carbs already – and eating rice with it. As far as the tea: ALL flavored tea has sugar in it in one form or another. ALL. Drink only plain black, green or white tea. No flavors of any kind.]

Maintenance Round 3, Week 3, Day 5 – 5/16

Weight: 162.5 = no change

Ketostix: moderate

Blood Glucose:

Fasting: 87
1-hour PP (after meal): 89
2-hour PP (after meal): 91

My numbers look so much better – it clearly was the tea! I get so excited when I see them becoming more normal/stable again. Thank you, SugarFree, for the chat you had with me today.

Although I did so well on Protocol – lost over thirty pounds and many, many inches of fat – I fell off the wagon over the summer, big time. Yes, SugarFree told me that it takes far longer to heal inside (and become truly insulin sensitive again) than it does outside, but they were just words. Now I’ve experienced it, having gained back seven pounds (nearly five percent of my total body weight!) — and it’s all fat. I’ve regained two and a half inches of fat in the regular areas of measurement, but even more inches elsewhere. All that hard work down the drain, because I didn’t stay the course and thought I could just do what I wanted to do. After all, I was ‘fixed’, right? Hah. Now it feels good to be back on Protocol. I’m looking forward to making lasting changes!
